Online Workshop on Development of Products from Numerical Weather Prediction Models and Ensemble Prediction System for High-Impact Weather Forecasting

Start Date:
Dec. 8, 2020
End Date:
Dec. 11, 2020
City:
Hong Kong
Region:
Americas, Europe, Asia & Oceania, Africa
Description:
The workshop will introduce recent developments in NWP models with a focus on the techniques for processing, visualizing, and developing guidance from NWP and EPS outputs for forecasting high-impact weather and extreme weather events. The workshop aims at enhancing the capacity of NMHSs in the provision of weather forecast and warning services. In addition to online lectures, online practical and sharing sessions will also be arranged. Forecasters and researchers involved in the processing of NWP/EPS, developing guidance products, and/or forecasting of high-impact weather are welcome to attend the workshop. The Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) is prepared to offer 20 fellowships covering tuition. Preference will be given to RA II and RA V Members, especially those participating in the Asian Consortium for Numerical Forecasts (ACNF), and participating countries of the WMO Severe Weather Forecasting Demonstration Project (SWFDP).
