A Climate Data Record of Soil moisture in the root zone - Series of online short courses

Start Date:
June 16, 2021
End Date:
June 16, 2021
Description:
This course is part of the new edition of EUMETSAT series of online short courses on data discovery for weather, oceanography, air quality and climate running from January 2021. Environmental (e.g. floods, droughts) and weather prediction systems rely on an accurate representation of soil moisture (SM). The availability of moisture in the root zone of plants is critical and especially in recent years has become an issue in large areas of Europe, as a series of dry summers have been experienced. As an H SAF partner ECMWF is producing scatterometer-derived root zone SM. In this short course you will learn about the retrieval approach and the strengths and limitations of the climate data record. You will also have the chance to explore the data yourself in a hands-on session. A feedback session will be organised later in the day at 15:00 UTC. Both sessions will be recorded. To get ready for the course, please visit the course page at https://training.eumetsat.int/cour….
Targeted Audience:
The short courses are open and address a wide range of attendees, from service providers to young (and less young) scientists and forecasters.
