Fire Danger Near Real Time Monitoring in the Mediterranean region - Series of online short courses

Start Date:
April 20, 2022
End Date:
April 20, 2022
In the Mediterranean region, the rainy and mild winters are usually followed by warm and dry summers, which leads to high levels of vegetation stress and to the accumulation of fuels during the dry phase. The fire season typically starts in May-June, and meteorological factors play a crucial role in the setting and spreading of wildfire, and are also an important factor in the resulting fire severity. How to interpret the available satellite products to anticipate severe fire occurrence? In this short course, you will learn how the LSA SAF Fire Risk Map product can be used as a warning tool to extreme fire probability in the Mediterranean region. Case studies over different Mediterranean countries will be presented. This course is part of the spring 2022 edition of EUMETSAT series of online short courses on data discovery for weather, oceanography, air quality and climate.

The short courses are open and address a wide range of attendees, from service providers to young (and less young) scientists and forecasters.
