ARSET - Field Spectroscopy Hands-On Training for Airborne Image Validation

Start Date:
Oct. 7, 2024
End Date:
Oct. 11, 2024
Description:
This training will provide hands-on experiences on the use of hyperspectral in-situ field spectroradiometers for land and water targets as well as a first-view of some of the hyperspectral imagery collected during the BioSCape campaign. Participants will be able to use in-situ spectral data as means for validation of airborne imagery. We will also explore aspects for consideration when working with airborne data such as sunglint, sun angle, aircraft (pitch, row, yaw) factors, among others and how these impact the image analysis. Participants will also explore differences between in-situ and image spectral signatures and how these differences are affected by image spatial resolution.
Targeted Audience:
Government natural resource management agency representatives, field technicians (South Africa), local academics (especially those working with the BioSCape Team), and Environmental Science graduate students from Cape Town area
