The Joint WMO-IOC Data Buoy Cooperation Panel (DBCP) is an official body of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO, focuses on the global coordination of drifting and moored buoys, ice buoys, and tsunami buoys to provide critical data for weather and climate applications. At the kind invitation of the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), the in-person "Training Workshop on Ocean Observations for Operational Services in the Indian Ocean" will take place from 5 to 7 August 2025, in Hyderabad, India. The objective of this workshop is to enhance the capacity of Members in the Indian Ocean region to maintain marine observation networks, collect quality data, and apply ocean observations to improve forecasting for social and economic benefits. The workshop will include both classroom and hands-on training to improve understanding of equipment operation, maintenance, and data management. The themes will cover ocean observing technologies, data access, data quality, best practices, regional collaboration to improve observing capacities, and the role of ocean observations in operational services. This workshop presents an exceptional opportunity for participants to gain new skills, hands-on experience in maintaining instruments and platforms, and contribute significantly to major international programmes. This workshop is primarily designed for marine meteorological and oceanographic (met-ocean) forecasters, ocean data managers, and observation instrument operators from the Western and Northern Indian Ocean region with trainers are being drawn from a wide spectrum of the international ocean community.
