EUMETSAT series of short courses: Ocean surface scatterometer winds from OSI SAF and Copernicus Marine Service
Start Date:
Sept. 2, 2025
Description:
The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) satellite wind team is specialized in retrieving sea surface winds from scatterometer observations. The team is responsible for the production and distribution of OSI SAF wind products and for the scatterometer winds products in the Copernicus Marine Service catalogue. This event will focus on presenting the particularities of these products and their access.
The different products will be presented by KNMI team members responsible for these products. They will provide a short introduction on scatterometer wind retrieval, explain the differences between the wind products and illustrate how the datasets are organized.
Usage of these products will then be presented through a specific use case.
The short course will consist of a 1-hour webinar. Two sessions with the same content will be held on September 2 (08:00 - 09:00 and 13:00 - 14:00 UTC). Participants are invited to choose the session that fits them best. The session will include a Q&A and feedback session. To support participants in using the datasets and tools we highlight, the online Q&A platform will remain open for one week following the webinar. Any queries posted will be quickly responded to.
Targeted Audience:
- Marine/weather forecasters
