Fish-PACE Virtual Hackweek for using hyperspectral color in fisheries and ocean ecosystem studies

Start Date:
Oct. 20, 2025
Description:
We are excited to announce the "Fish-PACE Hackweek," a 5-day collaborative virtual hack event scheduled for October 20-24, 2025. https://ocean-satellite-tools.gith… The goal of this hackweek is to a) increase familiarity and proficiency with the new hyperspectral data from NASA's PACE satellite within the fisheries and ocean ecosystem communities and b) to jointly work on pilot projects and ideas. During the hackweek, we will provide hands-on training in cloud-native tools and workflows (in Python) during the middle of the day (to accommodate multiple time zones) and hack together before (eastern time zones) and after (western time zones). We’ll conclude the hack week with presentations from each project team. Participants do not need to have expertise in programming or hyperspectral data; this is a “learn by doing” experience using projects to motivate the learning process – with the side-benefit of getting some pilot ideas off the ground. To register for the hackweek, please fill out the following application. The event is no-cost and open to all. Participants should plan to attend all days, join a project, and participate in one of the project work times each day. Confirmations and logistics information sent to applicants on October 6th.
