Integration of remote sensing data with ground observations for climate and droughts monitoring

Start Date:
Nov. 1, 2025
Region:
Africa, Americas, Asia & Oceania, Europe
Description:
This 5-day course introduces the use of remote sensing (RS) data for drought monitoring, with a strong emphasis on practical applications. The course will address key concepts, data types, and analytical methods, and will implement a sample project. The course is designed for meteorology experts and researchers in climate, drought, and meteorological studies. Basic computer and programming knowledge is required. The Course Plan includes: 1) Introduction to Remote Sensing – Elements of RS, Remote sensing characteristics. 2) Remote Sensing Data Types – Introduction to some commonly used RS Data, Working with some sample data. 3) Applications in Climate and Drought – Review of sample studies. 4) In-situ Data – Importance of terrestrial data in complementing remote sensing data, comparison between terrestrial and remote sensing data. 5) RS Indices – RS indices, Calculation of RS Indices, Working with sample data. 6) Image Analysis – Image time series, Image analysis for drought monitoring, Working with sample data.
