The Meteosat Third Generation Lightning Imager (MTG-LI) has been operational since 31 October 2024. MTG-LI enables the monitoring of lightning activity from global scales down to single storms. During the year 2025, it observed 608 million lightning flashes, providing users with the most complete characterization of total lightning activity over Europe, Africa, most of the Atlantic Ocean, and parts of South America, the Indian Ocean, and the Middle East. The presentation will illustrate key properties of the lightning activity observed by MTG-LI over the whole year of 2025 including global-scale statistics, regional and high-latitude storm monitoring, and flash level details that the instrument is able to resolve.
