1. Course Objective The Course is designed to to equip participants with a solid foundation in tropical cyclone (TC) science and forecasting techniques. It covers key areas such as the formation and prediction of TC, the monitoring and forecasting of typhoon-induced tornadoes, and satellite applications for disaster mitigation. The Course also integrates practical insights through case studies from Guangdong Province, highlighting the operational aspects of typhoon monitoring and early warning systems. The goal is to enhance participants' ability to predict TC and manage its impacts, making them better prepared for real-world meteorological challenges. 2. Participants Senior management officials and senior meteorologists are welcome to apply. Nomination from their National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NHMSs) or equivalent institutions is required. 1)Participants: senior management officials at director level and above; senior meteorologists with over 5 years of experience in TC monitoring and forecasting 2)Health: fit for intensive training and field trips 3)Age: Under 50 years old 4)Capacity: 25 participants 3. Course Organization The specific training courses, delivered in English, will be given by experts from CMA and its affiliated institutions. It will involve diverse training contents including lectures, hands-on practice, on-site teaching, technological & cultural tours, and participants' forum. Participants who complete all the required activities will receive a certificate of completion. Participants are expected to: 1)Fully engage in the in-person sessions, including a country-specific presentation on their knowledge of the course content; 2)Write a summary report of no less than 800 words, reflecting on the key outcomes of this course and offering insightful suggestions. 4. Application Information Applicants are requested to submit application documents to CMA ICTC/WMO RTC-BJ at training@intcmatc.com and cc to WMO Education and Training (ETR) Office at madiguzel@wmo.int no later than 15 October 2026. The required application documents are: 1)A completed application form (see Annex); 2)A Permanent Representative (PR) endorsement letter*; 3)A copy of your passport that should be valid for more than six months from the beginning of the Course. *An official endorsement letter from your country's PR with WMO, addressed to Dr. Chen Zhenlin, PR of China with WMO, stating that an applicant has been nominated for the Course and wishing to apply for financial support. Please note that the enrollment will be based on comprehensive consideration, and the chronological order of application submission will be taken into great account. Shortlisted applicants will receive an Invitation Letter for the training by email. Please bring the Letter with you upon arrival. 5. Fees and Funding 1)Tuition fees are waived for all the participants; 2)The international air tickets will be purchased by Course organizers, sponsored by CMA Guangdong Meteorological Service. Please keep constant contact via email and cellphone to confirm your flight itinerary; 3)Upon arrival in China, the participants' accommodation, meals, insurance and local transport (such as airport pickup) during the Course will be covered by Course organizers.
